Jack Macdonald

My first (academic) passion was Mathematics and Physics. I find them both fascinating and enjoy them so much that I dedicated four years of my life to studying them both at university. I've always enjoyed solving those types of problems and love learning new things.

After university I was ready for an new challenge and decided to explore software development. I joined my first role with no prior software experience and just learnt on the job! I've since stuck with it as a career because it gives me many of the things I've always enjoyed - solving new problems on a daily basis, never doing the same thing twice and continuously learning (a never-ending number of) new things.

I started out as a full-stack developer using the C#/.NET, HTML/CSS/TS (Durandal.js/Knockout.js), SQL Server and Azure stack. I worked for a health-tech startup which focused on creating software to help GP practices - my favorite part about this job was working on something which was having a real positive impact on peoples lives.

I then moved to work on a tenant-referencing software product which was used by Letting Agents. I feel that I grew a lot as a software developer at this new role. I was exposed to many more technologies and was more involved in DevOps processes and managing/monitoring Azure services.

Now I've just joined Hive, and I'm really looking forward to continue working with such an incredible and friendly team! And, hopefully, I can make some positive impact!

Jack's favourite city in the world is...

Barnsley ('Tarn). Born and bred. People say what they mean, and mean what they say. People are old fashioned and friendly. You can talk to anyone on the street and they won't look at you funny.
